Private House
Milano - Italy - 1998 |
|
This private flat in Milan occupies the top floor of a 18th century building located in the city center. Due to the enlargement of the family, the acquisition of more space was necessary, redefining the domestic layout responding to the needs of a couple with two children.
The kitchen has been moved to the upper level, facing onto a terrace with plantings, and communicating by means of a transparent door with the dining area, for an informal approach.
The living room, with the light freely entering from the upper level, has been re-arranged, closing off the storage spaces and passageways that repeat along the two-storey wall. The new staircase, contained in one of
the vertical openings in the wall, leads to an iron walkway running horizontally at the upper level, for access to the bedroom doors.
A few exposed but refined materials, especially wood and stone, warm oak flooring, treated with oil, combine to create a modern, but not cold, image.
