Private house

This apartment is found on the top floor of a building by Giovanni Muzio in the centre of Milan. It is a rather modest example of the architect’s buildings but, however, it has some of his typical characteristics that make it special.
The space extends over two floors: the sixth floor surrounded by a terrace, and a loft divided in two areas by the communal stairway with the living room on one side and the sleeping area on the other.
Our intervention focused on opening the plan towards the terrace by adding wide openings to the side walls and by creating a sort of veranda in steel and glass that juts out towards the outside uniting the outside space to the inside space.
The loft was also redesigned and renovated and two small terraces were added. The stairway connecting the loft with a small guest bathroom to the living room, came from the recovery of the original plans, significantly modified over the years and partly brought back by our work.
The choice of the completely white finishings that match the coverings in Sivec white marble and panel work in Corian, comes from the search for total abstraction of the internal space used almost as a background and contrasting with the urban landscape that permeates the house from the terrace openings.
