The design of a large symmetrical room centered around two structural pillars, is the solution chosen for the ground floor of this two-level boutique, located in the Via della Spiga in central Milano. Through the use of differentiated display fixtures for men’s and women’s clothing, and of furnishing objects of clearly domestic origin, the architecture takes on that image of sophisticated, sober elegance represented by the trademark. Very light white drapes, twelve meters in length, close off the room from the storefront, in a gesture intended to suggest feminine elegance and the private dimension of a dressmaker’s shop. Two large panels in wengè wood, a dark brown African hardwood, create the setting for the women’s collection, displayed on a brushed steel structure with a graphic form. As a contrast, a family of large wardrobes, with a rugged structure of dark hardwood, are used for the men’s collection. Of particular interest, finally, is the spectacular two story stairwell, whose optical white back wall reflects the sign, this time in vertical, of the large white drape that represents, in a figurative and metaphorical sense, the trait d’union between the male and female universes.
