B&B Italia Showroom

The B&B Italia site in London is a 120 mt long passage connecting Brompton Road to the existing South Kensington rail tracks.
The approximately 1200 sq mt of the showroom are connected to the streetfront window by a veritable tunnel.
This space, interpreted in the design with a slightly suspended walkway, gives the passage toward the interior, a sort of acceleration toward the showroom space contained within two solid walls accented by the light from the skylights and an extraordinary vault in white plaster designed by John Pawson in his reconversion project beneath the curved metal sheet ceiling of the old garage.
The project for the interior furnishings has focused on the articulation of this environment, already one of great quality in terms of proportions and its neutral character.
The zone covered by the mezzanine in white enamelled steel, with the dark gray ceilings and the strong accent lighting, defines another kind
of setting, more intensely theatrical, to bring out the materials and technical qualities of the kitchen counters.
The mezzanine space, with its reduced height, light wood flooring and decorative lighting fixtures, reconstructs a landscape of domestic comfort, but with amazing open proportion and fluid continuity of spaces, open one to another and overlooking the floor below.
