Project for a new Congress Centre and hotel facilities
Palma de Mallorca - Spain - 2005

The new Congress Centre in Palma de Mallorca has a crucial connection function since it is built in between the urban area, which is compact and close to the walls of the historical centre, and the more fragmented building area, which is characterised by the constructions resulting from the expansion after World War 2.
A large canopy  situated at 11 metres above the ground level covers the sequence of constructed volumes that contain the main conference room, the cafeteria, the meeting rooms and the exhibiting area, creating an urban continuum which is interrupted only by the pedestrian crossings along the main roads leading to the sea.  Paths make it possible to cross this area and give the complex an unmistakable public character, already seen in the shape of the access to the main hall, a single, vast public space situated under the large canopy and embellished by a small garden strategically placed a little higher than the road level.
The café garden introduces a second public crossing while a third path is a little to the east, close to the entrance but separated, designed for the exhibiting area and the meeting rooms, which can also be accessed from the hotel.
