The site is situated along a bending road in Nienstedten, a residential neighbourhood of the city of Hamburg on the river Elbe.
The almost triangular shape of the site together with construction limits in height and border distances lead to a plan that combines two orthogonal systems: the one of the neighbouring buildings and that of the garden.
The green area occupies the full depth of the site in order to achieve the maximum built surface, which is roughly 380 sqm on three floors.
The different characteristics of the site, including a quite noisy street, close neighbours and a very deep and slim garden with beautiful trees, are reflected by the mean of two different elevations.
A red plastered wall with cut-out windows toward the street protects the more delicate garden-side elevation clad in Siberian larch with large glazed openings toward the garden, framing a large L shaped open terrace.
The heart of the house is the double-height kitchen next to the entrance hall with the open staircase that connects to the upper floor.
The first floor houses the children rooms, while the master bedroom is located on the ground floor, where a sequence of communicating rooms faces the garden with large sliding doors separating the different spaces.
