Enzo degli Angiuoni Headquarters

Garbagnate - Italy - 2002
Tessitura Enzo degli Angiuoni is the result of a sequence of annexes.
The first core, the volume at the corner of the whole construction, was built using mixed traditional technology, a concrete structure, brick curtain walls, trusses. The building is dated, with a complex profile which looks more like a rural building than a production plant.
The company subsequently acquired the volume which is today shown in black, standing about 15 metres from the previous core. This warehouse, with its simple, classic pre-fabricated volume, supported by reinforced concrete panels, is also slightly higher than the old construction.
The project planned to introduce a unifying element between the two buildings able to connect indoor passageways on the ground floor and for housing the product research and planning department on the first floor.
The design of this interstitial part aimed at combining all the elements by a single approach to the façade in concrete panels that cover everything, including the initial core, thus giving the glass-panelled offices opening on the first floor the task of solving the problem – thanks to the openings in the wall - of the different heights of the alignments.
The part of the façade which was originally in reinforced concrete panels has been painted in tar black, as have the existing transformer station and the meter housing near the entrance. Black has also been used for the external paving in slate gravel, so as to provide more continuity to the surface areas and the colour of the whole.
