Antonio Citterio and Partners office building
Milan - Italy - 2000 |
The new building for the offices of the design firm is centrally located in downtown Milano in a quiet residential street. An infill between two existing buildings, the office occupies the site of a former office building, its volume dictated by the envelope of the existing structure. The new building is five floors high, with a lobby
slightly raised from street level and four floors of offices, plus conference rooms and laboratories located in three underground levels. A staircase clad in Aurisina stone and a glass elevator connect all levels.
The offices are laid out as open space areas, each area occupying one whole floor, from the street facade to the back, where a small courtyard brings natural light all the way down to the basement level. The top floor is reserved for Antonio Citterio’s own office, conceived as a “home away from home”, with one large private street side balcony in order to respect the setback imposed by building regulations, and another small balcony overlooking the tight courtyard on the back.
The street elevation is clad with slabs of Ceppo stone framing large window openings framed in natural anodized aluminium.
